Boreham Wood match reaction with
Regan Linney
17 August 2025

Striker Regan Linney scored a brace of beauties at Brunton Park against Boreham Wood last Saturday but his celebrations were somewhat muted as the Blues had their two-goal lead wiped out by a resurgent visiting team.

“Scoring was a very special feeling for me,” he admitted. “Obviously, we didn't end up winning and like I said in the other interviews, I'd rather win than score.

“I'd say [the second] is probably one of my best. I've not seen it back yet. Just because of my first home game at Brunton Park, it's that extra bit special, so I'll have to watch it back.”

And his goals were netted right in front of a huge home following.

“It's a special feeling, it should be for any player,” he agreed. “That's the reason why you play football, to play in front of fans like that.

“We're gutted, obviously, not to get the three points, but it's a real special day for me personally, scoring in front of that many people.

“Seeing them all gives you that extra bit of incentive to do really well. It didn't go to plan today, but I'm sure it will in other weeks.”

“We all want to be in front of a lot of fans. Hopefully I can keep delivering, keep scoring goals and making them happy.”

It was a day when the Blues needed a spark, with a below par first-half display bringing tension as the away team grabbed the lead.

“The gaffer obviously comes in and says his bit, and so does Frankie McAvoy, but once the gaffer's left or in the corner, or whatever, we all say our piece and try and put things right,” he explained.

“One of the lads said in there, if we get a result at home against Solihull, then it's a good start. It's not an easy league.

“Teams up it when they come to big places like this, so hopefully we can pull it around on Tuesday.”
