Special Treat for a Special Group

20 March 2025

It’s often our own fault, but there are so many good things that the Branch and our members do that goes unnoticed that we’re trying as much as we can to redress that balance and get on record some of the activities that can easily slip under the radar.

A great example came back in October 2024 when the committee voted unanimously to purchase the tickets which brought a group of youngsters from Huntley Venue Children’s Short Breaks Respite Home to the Harrogate home game.

Simon Clarkson represented us on the day and he could see just how much it meant to everyone when he handed over the tickets pitchside ahead of the game.

“They’re a fantastic group of people and I know I speak on behalf of the London Branch when I say that we were delighted that we were able to help with this treat of a group day out to Brunton Park,” he said.

“The Children’s Home does some amazing work and being able to play even a small part in assisting with that is something the Branch is very proud of. I know from speaking to the staff and the youngsters themselves that they were very grateful and thankful.

“The game was a draw on the day, so they maybe brought us a little bit of much-needed luck as well.”

The Huntley Avenue Children’s Short Breaks Respite Home provides support to children and young people with learning disabilities to grow, learn, develop, and live a positive and fulfilled life.
