Meeting Place

The GW Hotel, Station Road, SN1 1DH, Tel. 01793 694997

Decent pub opposite the station. An Arkell’s house with 2 or 3 ales usually available. There is a pool table, children are welcome and food is served. Members are likely to be in here from 1.30pm onwards.

Other Boozers and Food Outlets Worth a Visit

The Glue Pot, 5 Emlyn Square, SN1 5BP

A five minute walk from the station in the opposite direction of the ground. Members will most likely pop in here for a couple before heading over to the GW. The old fashioned corner pub serves an excellent range of real ales but unfortunately children under 14 are not allowed in.

Tap & Barrel, 115 Manchester Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 2AJ Tel: 01793 432587

Former branch meeting pub close to the ground. Convenient and functional but unfortunately no real ale, hence the move to the GW.

There are a few fast food joints along Manchester Road and the usual pies and Bovril are available in the ground.

How To Get There

By Train

Swindon is served by frequent trains from London Paddington with the journey taking around an hour.

The ground is about a 10-15 min walk from the station and GW Hotel. Head down Wellington Street until you reach the end of the road then turn left into Manchester Road. Continue all the way to the end, passing the Tap and Barrel (pop in for a pint en route if still thirsty) and hang a right at the T junction with County Road. The County ground is about 300 yards up the road on the left.

By Car

Directions to the County Ground can be found on the official Swindon Town website here.

What's The Ground Like?

Stacks Image 780
The County Ground is a mixture of the old and new. The Stratton Bank end is an old terrace with seats bolted on, while behind the other goal the Town End is a small covered stand with several supporting pillars. Either side of the pitch are two much larger more modern stands, the Don Rogers Stand and the Arkell’s Stand where away fans are situated. Local landmark the Magic Roundabout is situation at the south west corner of the ground.

When We Last Met

Carlisle finally recorded a win at the County ground when we last visit there in February 2011 thanks to a first half goal from James Berrett.  Our overall record in Swindon isn't great with 8 defeats, 10 draws and just that one victory.
