A decent, functional boozer very close to the railway station. Family friendly, sells real ale and food. Last time we were there our information officer decided to have a wee kip after the match. Despite being tempted, Croxy decided not to waste his beer.

Other Boozers and Food Outlets Worth a Visit

The majority of the pubs round the ground are home fans only. There are lots of good pubs in the town centre but seeing as we haven’t had chance to visit them no one seems to know what the best options are. If anyone has suggestions of good away fan friendly real ale pubs in Southampton please email Travel@carlislelondonbranch.org.

When We Last Met

Having been thrashed by Southampton at Wembley less than a month before, we lost 3-2 on our last visit to St Mary’s back in April 2010. Our Hit The Bar’s diarist had this to say on the matter at the time.

‘It looked as though we may be about to suffer as bad a defeat as at Wembley when the Saints took a 3-1 lead with about half an hour left. Madine scrambled a late consolation, to add to Harte‘s fantastic strike on the stroke of half-time, to make the score respectable. Great support from the 400 Blues fans keeps spirits high!’

The Ground

Southampton Crowd
After 103 years at the Dell Southampton moved to St Mary’s Stadium in 2001. A modern and impressive stadium, St Mary’s is a complete bowl with all sides of the ground being the same height. At both ends there are large replay screens, which are visible from any seat in the ground. As with many modern grounds it lack a bit of character but it is one of the more impressive new builds in the lower leagues.
