Charity Challenge
A message from Nigel Moss :-
On Sunday 7th November I am taking on my biggest challenge as I take part in the Twin peak Challenge. It has nothing to do with mountains it is far harder than that! I will be running up two tower blocks in The City , 67 floors, 1512 steps and 935 feet what ever way you look at it, it's a bloody long way!! This is all in the name of charity Action Against Hunger: www.actionagainsthunger.org.uk
You all know me pretty well and can vouch for the fact that I am a bit over weight (according to the Met Police Health Staff I am actually fat however I dispute this fact!) rather lazy and despise most forms of physical activity!
Why the hell am i doing this i hear you ask. Well my mate Simon (my mate that came on the brewery tour) is the organiser and over a few beers in East London the other weekend he was telling me about it. He then went on to say that I would never have the courage or the balls to do it. To be honest it was a perfectly fair interpretation of the situation however after 5 pints I decided that I would prove him wrong!! Never ever make a decision like this after 5 pints!!
So now i am committed to it and am actually looking forward to it. No that's a lie I can't bring my self to even pretend that. I am actually s**tting myself. I have asked my mate to ensure that extra paramedics are on hand as i really fear for my health with this. I get out of breath running up the stairs to the office i work in and that's only on the 2nd floor!!
So I ask you all to be generous and donate then think of me (or pray for me!) next Sunday morning as i take on this challenge.
You can donate at www.justgiving.com/nigemoss
Thank you

Summer Trip
An update from Mike Carruthers - summertrip@carlislelondonbranch.org
" The shortlist for the summer trip was discussed at the October branch meeting. I'm grateful to Nigel Moss, Dave Brown and Al Millington for carrying out research into travel options. We have concluded that from the original shortlist La Rochelle and Bilbao are not feasible.
La Rochelle - Flights were available this year to LaRochelle and are likley to be next year but prices and schedules won't be released until the New Year. Similarly rail travel will be available but again prices will not be available until New Year. It was felt that this was to uncertain to proceed with.
Bilbao - Flights are available but not on Fridays or Mondays so this would only be feasible if we were to change the trip departure date to either Thu - Sun or Sat - Tue.
Caen - There is a ferry option from Portsmouth which at present would cost approx £60 - £70 return as a foot passenger. There is also the rail option. We will retain Caen as an option.
One of the suggestions was that we should have at least one option that had good flight options from provincial airports. Berlin was raised last year and we have decided to add this as it does have excellent flight options. It is,surprisingly reasonably cheap for Germany.
The final addition is Ljubljana in Slovenia. There are cheap flights available from Stansted. Ljubljana is very much an up and coming destination it is fairly close to the Italian border and offers the opportunity for trips to Lake Bled/Julian Alps.
So the final shortlist is
Caen
Berlin
Ljubljana
The choice of departure dates are
Friday 10th June
Friday 17th June
Please let me have your votes for:
Destination
1st Preference
2nd Preference
3rd Preference
(2nd & 3rd preferences are optional)
Choice of date (choose one of the above)
Deadline for votes is Friday 26th November and the result will be announced at the branch meeting on Thursday 2nd December. "

AWAY TRAVEL
It is essential that you review your Ticket Deposit Scheme balance at http://www.carlislelondonbranch.org/travel/tds.php
Tickets should be ordered from tickets@carlislelondonbranch.org or via our website only when you have sufficient funds on deposit.
A message from Travel Co-ordinator Al Millington - travel@carlislelondonbranch.org .
Train tickets for the Notts County game on 22nd Jan will be released any day and as far as I can tell there is no group save option on the day. If we want to secure a bargain we will need to move swiftly. We should in theory be able to pick up singles for 11-12 quid each.
Can you let me know whether they would like to travel with the group for this trip. I will put a deadline of 1st November for folk to let me know whether they want to come along. Depending on numbers we maybe able to secure a bit more discount through the use of family rail cards.
I'd suggest either the 9.30 or 10.15 train out of St Pancreas. The 9.30 is quite early but allows time for a wander round the city and a sly pint in the Trip to Jerusalem - the oldest pub in the universe. Please note FA cup 4th round is the following weekend. We will be taking a slight gamble with the January weather but Nottingham is a good city for a day out with plenty of good pubs if the match is called off.
Walsall 20th November
We await ticket prices.
A few train travellers have already booked on the 10.03 from Euston and back on the 17.34 from The Bescot Stadium with a change at Birmingham New Street in either direction.
Keep the faith,
Simon Clarkson

Hit The Bar!
Geoff Graham is taking over the Editorship of Hit The Bar! from Dave Brown. He will take over officially from the January issue BUT he will also be doing the bulk of the work for the December issue as his final lead in.
Therefore for the next issue of HTB, please send all information, contributions, questions, ideas, photos, opposition reports etc to Geoff on editor@carlislelondonbranch.org
Geoff will be setting the deadline but just as a heads up, it will be around the middle of November.
Dave says: “I would like to give a huge thanks to you all for the enormous support that you have given me as Editor. I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 2 years and have been very proud of the magazine that we have published which I believe has the best content of any football fanzine that I have read.”
“Geoff will make an excellent editor and will bring a new focus and enthusiasm to freshen up the magazine. I am sure that you will all support Geoff in the future as well as you have me in the past. “
“I will also continue to need your support as Information Officer for the branch.”
“Once again, thank you”
