VHTB - 02/02/10
02/02/10 19:52
Another two goal lead blown but no injury time winner this weekend. The few Branch members that went to support our fellow Cumbrians, were treated to a 5 goal thriller and jubilant scenes at the end of the game. Thanks to Nigel Moss for organising a great day out.
Two deadline day loan signings - Ben Marshall from Stoke & Daryl Duffy from Bristol Rovers.
An interesting take on Olga the Fox in an article published in the Guardian this week http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jan/29/carlisle-olga-the-fox-harry-pearson
The deadline for the next HTB is this weekend coming so please send in any snippets to Dave Brown ASAP editor@carlislelondonbranch.org.
Brunton Park Diary
Jan 26th (Tue)
Gateshead manager Ian Bogie will have another forward option to choose from when he picks his next side (sorry) as the legend that is Brian Wake joins the Conference team on a free from Greenock Morton. With 50 goals from 188 games, his record is nothing to be sniffed at.
EXETER CITY 2 CARLISLE UTD 3
OFFSIDEAGAIN, OFFTARGETAGAIN, OFFTODARLOAGAIN or whatever you want to call him finally scores!!!!!!
Enough said.
* Player Ratings: Collin 6.67, Keogh 6.33, Livesey 8.00 (star man), Harte 6.33, Horwood 7.00, Hurst 6.67, Thirlwell 5.67, Clayton 7.33, Robson 6.67, Kavanagh 5.67, Anyinsah 7.67. Subs: Madine and Offiong.
Jan 29th (Fri)
After some inevitable rumours linking him with a return to Carlisle, Lee Peacock joins Grimsby Town on an 18-month deal. The football’s going to be rubbish but the fish and chips will be terrific. Swindon’s decision to give him a free was ironically precipitated by Pericard’s arrival.
Jan 30th (Sat)
The Youth Team’s home match against Preston is called off due to a frozen pitch.
It’s confirmed that Carlisle took 20 year-old striker Jordan Connerton on a short trial during the week from Lancaster City. Several clubs have already been linked with the player including most recently Preston as well as Crewe, Swindon, Motherwell, Leeds and Derby. Described as strong with a good touch, great awareness and a quality finisher, Jordan already as 30 goals to his credit this season.
CARLISLE UTD 2 LEYTON ORIENT 2
The lessons from Tuesday aren’t learnt as two points are thrown away against the O’s. It had all started so well under a newly employed 4-4-2 system with a great move for Anyinsah’s opener on 14 and then Harte powered in a header from Robson’s corner just before half-time. Sloppy goals on 60 and 77 bring parity. Smokin’ Joe goes off early with an injury and is therefore a major doubt for the Tuesday game at Colchester.
* Player Ratings: Collin 7.00, Keogh 7.67 (star man), Livesey 6.00, Harte 6.67, Horwood 6.50, Hurst 5.67, Thirlwell 4.67, Clayton 7.17, Robson 6.00, Madine 4.33, Anyinsah 7.17. Sub: Offiong 3.50
Elsewhere it finishes AFC Wimbledon 2 Workington 3 to send the Reds into the quarter finals of the FA Trophy.

Following the great result at Leeds in the first leg of the Northern Area JPT final we have been rewarded with the second leg being shown live on Sky on Tuesday 9th Feb with a 7pm kick off.
We are again looking to utilise the excellent facilities at the Civil Service Club. Can anyone interested in attending please contact Alan Millington at information@carlislelondonbranch.org.
Don't sit at home alone watching the game, treat yourself to a night out in the company of other Blues and some decent real ale.
