Summer Trip and/or Weekend Away

The vote for the destination/date of next years summer trip chose Budapest as the destination and the date Friday 4th June. I am unable to go on the trip next June and whilst I'm happy to help in booking hotels and researching things to do etc if the trip is to go ahead a volunteer would be needed to organise things once there (excursions, meals etc). If anybody would be prepared to step forward please contact me asap.

I also asked in the survey if there was interest for a weekend based around an away game this season. The response to this was very positive and having discussed this further with a number of members I would now like to gauge interest for a weekend based around our final game of the season at Norwich (Saturday 8th May). Brunton Park Diary

Nov 16th (Mon)
Andy Cook returns to the club on crutches after picking up what was originally reported as a badly bruised foot in Barrow’s 2-2 home draw with AFC Wimbledon on the previous Saturday. Cook was substituted at half time having picked up a knock during the first half and leaving a swelling around the damaged area. The injury transpires to be damage to his fifth metatarsal and on full assessment a few days later, it’s confirmed that Cook’s season is unfortunately over. The operation will involve a bone graft with the bone pinned and there’s also likely to be associated tendon damage, thus taking at least five months until he’s back in training.
David Raven undergoes an operation on his injured hip having missed out on first team action since the end of October. MBW sprains ligaments in his knee after twisting it awkwardly in training that morning and is out for about three. The Captain’s armband strain sustained by Thirlwell continues to tie him to the treatment table. Murphy is also set to miss out on the cup reply with a “groin twinge”. Several female volunteers arrive at physio Neil Dalton’s office in order to assist with his treatment and recovery.

Nov 17th (Tue)
MORECAMBE 0 CARLISLE UTD 1 - F.A.CUP ROUND 1 REPLAY
Although not the slickest of performances, Carlisle do just enough to get past their plucky opponents with a fine 5th minute goal from Anyinsah to book a webcast tie against Norwich in the 2nd round. The defence is fortunately less chaotic than the turnstile arrangements as 1,000 Carlisle supporters descend on the tie leaving some 300 still outside when the game kicks-off. The officials miss a nailed-on penalty when Keogh is barged in the back but otherwise, the first non-draw between the two is possibly hard justice on Morecambe.

** Player Ratings: Pidgeley 7, Keogh 7, Livesey 7, Harte 6, Horwood 6, Anyinsah 8 (star man), Clayton 7, Taiwo 7, Kavanagh 6, Robson 7, Pericard 6. Subs: Dobie and Hurst.

Nov 18th (Wed)
YORK CITY YOUTH 1 CARLISLE UTD YOUTH 2 - FA YOUTH CUP RD 2
Although non-league at pro level, the York City youth team are flying high in the equivalent north-east league set up. With the prize of a third round home tie against Stoke City, it’s therefore a good win that sees Carlisle through following first-half goals from Rod-Thomas-o-Like Manny Richardson and Ben McKenna. York, who had a robust, physical approach, scored near the end to set up a nervy finish but the team held out to the end.

Nov 19th (Thu)
The football club confirm that the Environment Agency flood gates have been closed due to ongoing bad weather conditions, thus closing the match day car park until further notice.

Nov 21st (Sat)
BLACKPOOL YOUTH 0 CARLISLE UTD YOUTH 3
Goals from Reid, McKenna and Bowman secure a comfortable victory for the Youth Team and their first double of the season having won 4-0 at home.

CARLISLE UNITED 0 SWINDON TOWN 1
The ground staff work wonders to clear up to 6 inches of standing water from the pitch and then in the words of the Football League Show on BBC 1, “wish they hadn’t bothered”. It’s confirmed later that Keogh and Taiwo were both playing with the effects of an illness that led to their substitution at half-time. It was a poor touch from Taiwo that led to Austin opening the scoring after just 3 minutes. Anyinsah missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise on 13 and despite some near things including a Harte free-kick hitting the woodwork, it was the same old story with Carlisle’s finishing as Swindon held on.

* Player Ratings: Pidgeley 5.5, Keogh 5.25, Livesey 5.25, Harte 5.75, Horwood 6 (star man), Anyinsah 4.75, Clayton 4.75, Taiwo 5, Kavanagh 4.25, Robson 5, Pericard 5.5. Subs: Dobie 5.33, Kane 5.33

* Taken as an average from the CUFC online messageboard.
** Taken from CUFC online main report as no messageboard ratings.

VHTB - 18/11/09 - The Treble is Still On

The 1-0 victory at Morecambe tonight will prove to be very financially lucrative as the FA cup second round game at home to Norwich on 28th Jan will be shown live on the internet with a 5.15pm kick off. I will look into the potential of a social gathering at a central London venue if we can beam the internet stream onto a large screen

A Plea for a Lift

A message from Aidan Wharton in Jersey - " I am keen to get over for the Colchester game on 19th December but would not make it back to Gatwick in time for my return flight due to the time it would take getting back on the train.

I was keen for this match hoping it wouldn't involve another overnight stay for me but the winter flight times mean that there are no later flights available.

If there is a member who has to pass Gatwick on their way home and wouldn't mind giving me a lift back there after the game , I would happily contribute to the fuel bill. " Aidan Wharton slim_ady14@hotmail.com.

VHTB - 16/11/09 - Anniversary Issue

Today is the 35th anniversary of the London Branch. I wonder if the founder members could ever have imagined that the Branch would have developed so much ?

Uniteds recent revival was blown off course on saturday in a game we deserved something out of. A victory at Morecambe tomorrow evening will prove to be very financially lucrative as the FA cup second round game will be shown live on the internet. It's Bradford at home in the area semi final of the JPT. Optomists should put the final date 28th March in their diaries.
