Social 2nd December

All our welcome to the Civil service Club on Thursday 2nd December when Managing Director John Nixon & Media Officer Andy Hall will be our special guests for a social evening.

There will be the option of a two course meal in the restaurant for £10 at 1830 prior to the get together at 2000. Bar meals are also available for £5.

We need to gauge numbers for meal purposes and to ensure we get the right sized room.

Please register with Mike Carruthers ASAP at carruthers29@btinternet.com

If you can't attend but would like a question putting to our guests please send it to me.

NB The Branch meeting still goes ahead on 18th November .

Supporters' Game

Our next game is confirmed against Leyton ‘Orientear’ Orient FC with a 10.30am kick off on Saturday December 4th 2010 to be played at Low Hall Sports Ground, South Access Road, E17

Orient will try to get a ref but we suspect it will be like previous years and down to a sub/any willing soul. (Obviously if there are any budding refs out there, please don’t hesitate to contact us ! )

White kit as normal (currently with Dave Batey)

The nearest tube station is Walthamstow Central where players needing lifts need to meet at 9.45am to be collected by those driving.

Summer Trip

An update from Mike Carruthers - summertrip@carlislelondonbranch.org

" The shortlist for the summer trip was discussed at the October branch meeting. I'm grateful to Nigel Moss, Dave Brown and Al Millington for carrying out research into travel options. We have concluded that from the original shortlist La Rochelle and Bilbao are not feasible.

La Rochelle - Flights were available this year to LaRochelle and are likely to be next year but prices and schedules won't be released until the New Year. Similarly rail travel will be available but again prices will not be available until New Year. It was felt that this was to uncertain to proceed with.

Bilbao - Flights are available but not on Fridays or Mondays so this would only be feasible if we were to change the trip departure date to either Thu - Sun or Sat - Tue.

Caen - There is a ferry option from Portsmouth which at present would cost approx £60 - £70 return as a foot passenger. There is also the rail option. We will retain Caen as an option.

One of the suggestions was that we should have at least one option that had good flight options from provincial airports. Berlin was raised last year and we have decided to add this as it does have excellent flight options. It is,surprisingly reasonably cheap for Germany.

The final addition is Ljubljana in Slovenia. There are cheap flights available from Stansted. Ljubljana is very much an up and coming destination it is fairly close to the Italian border and offers the opportunity for trips to Lake Bled/Julian Alps.

So the final shortlist is

Caen
Berlin
Ljubljana

The choice of departure dates are

Friday 10th June
Friday 17th June

Please let me have your votes for:

Destination

1st Preference
2nd Preference
3rd Preference

(2nd & 3rd preferences are optional)

Choice of date (choose one of the above)

Deadline for votes is Friday 26th November and the result will be announced at the branch meeting on Thursday 2nd December. "

Notts County 22nd January

A message from Travel Co-ordinator Al Millington - travel@carlislelondonbranch.org .

Train tickets for the Notts County game on 22nd Jan will be released any day and as far as I can tell there is no group save option on the day. If we want to secure a bargain we will need to move swiftly. We should in theory be able to pick up singles for 11-12 quid each.

Can you let me know whether they would like to travel with the group for this trip. I will put a deadline of 1st November for folk to let me know whether they want to come along. Depending on numbers we maybe able to secure a bit more discount through the use of family rail cards.
I'd suggest either the 9.30 or 10.15 train out of St Pancreas. The 9.30 is quite early but allows time for a wander round the city and a sly pint in the Trip to Jerusalem - the oldest pub in the universe. Please note FA cup 4th round is the following weekend. We will be taking a slight gamble with the January weather but Nottingham is a good city for a day out with plenty of good pubs if the match is called off.

Keep the faith,

Simon Clarkson
