Virtual Hit The Bar - 30/10/11

Well you aren't going to get bored supporting Carlisle. After a great night ringing out the cheers in East London at our pools and darts night while listening to the Wendies game, we follow up on Saturday 3-0 down at 45 minutes and then that man Miller pops up again. Zoko on the pitch second half and the job is nearly done. A great fight back but it is still 2 points lost and where could we be now if we started the first half the way we seem to play the second?

Shine The Light Launch
STL_Cheque_Presentation_lo_res_111008
10 members had a very successful day trip from London to Carlisle on Saturday to launch the Shine The Light campaign to raise funds for the floodlight improvements. Meeting up with friends and family and other members plus assorted Brentford fans in the Kings Head we were able to sample local ales at £1.90 per pint before stopping at the Pioneer shop for an excellent Cumberland sausage bap for £1.50p! The club proved very welcoming and Simon Clarkson, Mike Carruthers and Dave Brown were able to meet Dick Young (Commercial Director) and Clair Fidler (Sales and Marketing Manager) to discuss the plans for STL and other issues before our new President Hugh McIlmoyle and Simon presented the £1,000
Branch_members_arriving_at_Carlisle_Station_Lo_res_111008

At half time we were able to sell Hit The Bar!s inside the ground for the first time. NEW NEWS

Huge Welcome to to our new President

We are delighted to announce that Carlisle Legend Hughie Mcilmoyle has agreed to be the New President of the branch - a position that has been vacant since the sad passing of Dave Nicholson. Hugh said "Thank you for your kind offer to be President of the London Branch of the Supporters Club. I accept and feel honoured and privileged to hold such a position. It is the supporters of a football club that are the most important people, they stay with the club through thick and thin. Look forward to seeing you on 8th October"

Shine The Light Fundraising Campaign to be launched on Saturday 8th October at the Brentford game

As you all know, through your kind donations and support of fundraising events, the branch regularly provide sponsorship and donations to the club. This season we have already sponsored the extended match highlights that are on United Player and also the Centre of Excellence Manager David Wilkes. We are also committed to sponsoring the home game against Scunthorpe on Easter Monday. We always look for ways that we can help the club that don't prove popular to the corporate sponsors so that the club gets extra benefit.

Recently we were approached by the club to help out with upgrading the floodlights. This upgrade had to be carried out to comply with current Football League regulations and meant that £15,000 would need to be spent taking away much needed money for the team activities. The branch immediately agreed to donate £1,000 but we felt that this would afford a great opportunity to try to involve Carlisle fans everywhere by launching a campaign, run by the London Branch, to raise a total of £5,000. We decided to name this campaign "Shine The Light" and will be working with the club to raise funds throughout the supporter base.

The campaign will be launched at the home game v Brentford on Saturday 8th October with an on pitch presentation of the £1,000 cheque to the club by our new President Hugh McIlmoyle. There are 10 members travelling up for the day from London and we will be joined by our many Carlisle based fans and those that often travel to home games. There will be a half page about the campaign in the match programme and an article on the club website organised with the kind help of Club Media Officer Andy Hall. We also hope to get publicity for the launch from the Evening News and Star and Radio Cumbria.

Over the season ahead we will be organising various fundraising events including a raffle with prizes not normally available to buy. We will also be offering a specially produced LB baseball cap with all profits going to the campaign. It will be possible to donate online on the branch website via PayPal which will be available from the 8th October.

If you would like to offer your help on the campaign or would like further details, please contact chairman Simon Clarkson. chairman@carlislelondonbranch.org

Radio Cumbria - Post Match Comments

Recently the branch has been well represented in the fans' post match comments on the matchday show of Radio Cumbria. After the Walsall game yesterday Simon Clarkson, Ken Hullock, Dave Brown and Al Millington were all asked to offer views after the game. If you would like to make your views known via Radio Cumbria, please email Dave Brown information@carlislelondonbranch.org . Please provide your name, mobile number and which of the following away games you will be attending: 15/10 Yeovil; 22/10 Charlton; 5/11 Exeter; 19/11 Sheffield United; 10/12 Scunthorpe; 26/12 Preston; Huddersfield 31/12.

Hit The Bar - Are you seeing double?

Due to an administrative error, some members were sent 2 separate copies of the last issue of Hit The Bar! Whille mistakes of this type are rare, it does happen and we apologise. To make the best of it, why not give your second copy to a Carlisle fan and suggest he joins the branch?

Supporters' Football

Football captain Chris Tembey reports that the next supporters games are likely to be:
Nov 12 v Wimbledon (FA Cup First Round Opponent pending....)
Nov 26 v Kingstonian (awaiting their ground approval)

From that point on the games (weather permitting) will run as follows:

Jan 14 MK Dons
Feb 11 Stevenage (rumour has it this team may no longer be active, so Barnet could provide an alternate opposition)
Feb 18 Brentford
Mar 17 Bournemouth
Apr 07 Wycombe

This is all of course subject to change and there is even potential for other games (e.g. Watford, Dag & Red) but this is sufficient I think for now! To play or support or just to get further details, contact chris on football@carlislelondonbranch.org

United Scene

The first issue of the club Magazine "United Scene" comes out in the next week or two. There is now a website that previews the magazine and has details about the subscription available.
