Jugsy’s Birthday

A message from Jugsy - " I know the youthful looks are still there, the 6 pack and the sparkling eyes, but would ya adam an eve it, I am gonna be 40 next month. My original proposal of Brazil, looks best left until my Golden years, so second best, I've decided to spend the evening in the same pub my dad 'wet my head' 40 years before hand. I checked it out , and it's still there, has a nice garden area and beer is reasonable too (Youngs brewery). I will follow this with a saunter to the Comedy Night at the Bedford Arms. Let me know whom (if any) you fancy attending (bring partners/mates etc...) as I may need to let "The Bedford" know about numbers, and pre-warn Nightingale if they'll need extra bar staff."

"I've been faulty for years, now its gonna be official"

Here's the itinerary:-

18:00 - Nightingale Inn; 97, Nightingale Lane, London, SW12 8NX

Blue Season Book

Neil Nixon is working on another Blueseason book covering the present league season. One thing he would like to add this time is a section with fan comments. He needs about a dozen dedicated fans to make some comments in the following categories:

Player of the season:

Best thing about this season:

Worst thing about this season:

If you could change one thing for next season, what would it be?

He will credit everyone whose responses appear in the book. Please send the answers directly to Neil Nixon on Facebook or e-mail them to nlnxn@aol.com

*** 9th May 1999 - Thousands of Carlisle supporters woke up with a hangover after that goal on the previous day( reproduced with kind permission from ' On This Day ' ).

I Told You I Was a Striker

Jimmy Glass rounded off his weekend visit with a run out for the London Supporters’ Branch football team against a team made up of Scandanavian based Blues supplemented by some friends from Carlisle.

On the back of the highly successful day as main sponsors of the Millwall game, the London Branch had a good size squad to choose from and this proved to be significant as the training pitch at Brunton Park took its toll, with no doubt that the celebrations the previous day played their part on some tiring legs.

Jimmy Glass declined to play in goal and so was granted his wish to play as striker. His first touch was greeted with a crunching tackle but it was not long before the hero stroked in the first goal of the day. A corner led to the second goal as Jimmy crashed a volley into the roof of the net. The perfect end to the game came late on when inevitably it was Glass who completed his hat trick in front of an appreciative crowd. His legendary status had just increased even more and yet again it was his name on everyone’s lips as players and spectators enjoyed post match refreshments in the Sporting Inn.

London Branch Chairman Simon Clarkson said "Jimmy's hat trick did not come as a surprise as we all know that he has that magic touch. It was a great occassion that brought together exiled supporters and the perfect way to end a great weekend".

Click here to listen to an interview with Jimmy Glass carried out by London Branch junior, Ralph Wood, during the supporters’ match.

Photos of the match can be viewed here.

VHTB - 04/05/09

I don't think anyone could have written the script better. As sponsors on saturday, over 50 members had a fantastic day and the weekend just got better as Jimmy Glass starred for our supporters team in a game against the Scandanavian Branch before some of us finished off with a great night at the Awards Dinner.

I'm sure there are loads of great photos and memories that those in attendance can share in order to make the next edition of Hit the Bar a real cracker. Please therefore send as much as you can into Dave Brown before the deadline of Saturday at editor@carlislelondonbranch.org and anything that you are happy to see up on our website to Paul Parke at webmaster@carlislelondonbranch.org.
