Making a Difference
31/07/09 14:27
I am doing a triathlon on 6th September at Dorney Lake to raise funds for the Emily Ash Trust www.emilyashtrust.com. Those of you that know me well will recognise that this event will be a big challenge given it is a long time since I swum or rode a bike !
Cancer and leukaemia will affect most people during the lives. The purpose of the Emily Ash Trust is to help improve the lives of children by both helping them directly and improving the lifestyle of the family unit or guardians who are supporting a child. Respite care such as mini breaks or purchases of specific equipment can make a significant difference to the quality of life within the family.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Emily Ash Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
It's easy to donate online by credit or debit card - just go to my Justgiving page:
http://www.justgiving.com/Simon-Clarkson
This automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more. I hope you'll join me in supporting the Emily Ash Trust.
Thank you,
Simon Clarkson
NB I am on holiday from 2-13th August where I hope to use the chance to get in some warm weather training !

A mixed bag this week in the two friendlies against higher grade opposition. It was a good performance on tuesday against Hull when we were unlucly to go down 2-1 . Yesterday we lost 2-0 to Boro where we failed to repeat the same performance. Josh Gowling has gone out on loan to Gillingham. Congratulations to Chris Tembey who became a father this week and should be signing up baby Lucas as our youngest member.

If you go to any of the pre-season games remember to send in your match reports for Hit The Bar! to Dave Brown editor@carlislelondonbranch.org before July 31st. 3-400 words would do, comments re Pidgley, Robson etc very helpful. Pics also very welcome .
Mike Carruthers’ Sepp Blatter Challenge
Sepp Blatter has offered Carlisle the chance to send a squad to the world cup, so you have to select a squad of 22 players and a manager. The players must have played for and the manager must have managed Carlisle Utd. The squad must be made up of 3 Goalies, 6 defenders, 6 midfielders, and 6 strikers. To add a lighthearted touch the final player is your wildcard and doesn't necessarily have to have played for Carlisle, but they must have a Carlisle connection for example it could be a well known Carlisle character past or present.
You must give the reason for: Your choice of manager, Your choice of wildcard (including explaining the Carlisle connection if it isn't obvious).
The most popular squad and the best managers, wild cards and reasons will appear in Hit The Bar! Send your squads to Dave Brown editor@carlislelondonbranch.org before July 31st.

Carling is inviting Carlisle United fans to take part in the Carling Cup Predictor Challenge, which lets fans show off their football knowledge for the chance to win Carling prizes and tickets to the Carling Cup Final. To play the game, fans simply predict the score of the Carling Cup matches for each round. It's free to play, and winners from each round will receive a case of Carling, a Carling sports bag and t-shirt.

Ben Williams was sold to Colchester despite the attempt to sign Scott Vernon failing. Williams has been replaced by Lenny Pidgeley from Millwall. Margate Friendly 17th July ko 7.30pm
Alan Millington information@carlislelondonbranch.org will co-ordinate any one interested in travelling by train from Victoria where Groupsave is available for around £50 for 4 ( £1 for children). Anyone looking for car sharing opportunities should get in touch with me. We are looking to set up a members section on our website to simplify this type of activity.
Oldham 19th September
www.qjump.co.uk has singles through to Oldham Werneth for £9 each way but they are likely to go fast. A few members have booked at these early bird prices for a trip where there are no Groupsave deals on the following service:-
Out on the 09.40 from Euston arriving Oldham 12.54 - coach C
Back on the 18.00 arrive Euston 21.19 - coach D
Meeting Places
The first home game is likely to attract a lot of LB members. We need suggestions of somewhere to meet up as the Rugby Club is often too busy and the Linton Holme has proved not that popular.
Can anyone help with meeting places for some of our new away venues this season ? Please have a look on our website and drop me a line .

Social
Tony Little will arrange an evening at the Comedy Store at Leicester Square, including a meal beforehand for 3rd September. Please contact him at social@carlislelondonbranch.org to register your interest. He hosted a great BBQ yesterday, enjoyed by all who attended.
It is now membership renewal time of the year and the only way to guarantee no price increase is before the AGM where subs are set ! Please bear in mind the two London games in August where tickets will only be ordered for renewed members with monies in their TDS. The season kicks off in less than 5 weeks .
Keep the faith,
Simon Clarkson
