Virtual Hit The Bar - 28/08/11

We knew it was going to be a good day when the supporters team beat the Orienteers. On to the Birkbeck and there were several fine real ales and they didnt run out. It had to be a winning day. Just like London buses you wait for ages for a goal from a striker and then 2 come along together in the form of our new hero Lee Miller from Middlesborough. Sitting 6th in the table with 2 away wins before the end of August looks pretty good to me.

Support Barry The Fish on his Cross Channel Swim

Branch founder Malcolm Fawcett tells us from Houston about Carlisle fan Barry O'Doherty who broke his back at 19 years old when he fell from scaffolding. He was expected to spend his life in a wheelchair but by sheer determination he learned to walk again after spending a year in hospital. In the 20 years since the accident, Barry has never had a pain free day but you wiill never hear him complaining. Barry started swimming to keep fit and in 2005 begain to swim outdoors. In 2010 he completed the 10.5 mile Windemere swim and set his next challenge of swimming the channel in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association. He is joining other swimmers today at Dover and will be heading out some time this week when weather conditions allow. His training has been rigorous and has curtailed his time to raise funds so please contribute to an excellent cause here: www.justgiving.com/Barry-O-the-fish
