Fanzine of the Year
Make sure that Hit The Bar! wins the Fanzine of the Year Award in the Football Fans Census Fanzine Awards in 2010. The shortlist is decided by how many nominations the fanzine gets so we need you to email contact@footballfanscensus.com and name Hit The Bar! as your choice for 2010 The Football League Fanzine – Print. To see the winners for 2009 visit www.footballfanzineawards.com/winners.php. If we can get enough nominations the winners are decided by a judging panel which gives us an excellent chance. There are also awards for “Best Football League Fanzine – Online” and “Best Editor – Either Media” so send in your nominations for these awards as well.

Ahead of the proposed game against Gillingham on 5th December a warm up has been arranged against some of Ryan “I got the winner at Orient” Wilson's work colleagues.

The idea being:
Game – Showers – Afternoon watching the goals fly in on Soccer Saturday
(OK, this is just an excuse for a game of footy and a social gathering.)
All available players please contact Chris Tembey football@carlislelondonbranch.org ASAP but ALL WELCOME – even if it’s just to join for the afternoon!
We are heading to 'The Crooked Billett' 140 Musley Hill, Ware, SG12 7NL after the game, a pub run by Carlisle fan Stuart West.
Brunton Park Diary
Oct 31st (Sat)
The draw for the 3rd round of the Cumberland Cup sees the Blues drawn away to Wetheriggs United. The game will be played on December at 1.30pm, the time when the first team are away to Gillingham.
CARLISLE UTD 3 CHARLTON ATH 1
The winning bandwagon rolls on with possibly the most impressive performance of the season. Neutrals wouldn’t have picked out which team was lying in 2nd and which was hovering above the relegation zone. The referee manages the rare feat of bemusing and annoying both sets of fans in equal measure. Dobie, 25 yards out and clean in on goal is hauled down by the last defender. Only a yellow is shown. Carlisle attack and as Livesey waits for the ball to drop, a Charlton defender tries to use him as a human step-ladder. No penalty. From the corner, Burton gives his man a gentle nudge. Penalty. Harte scores from the saved rebound. Burton makes amends with a run that ends with Kavanagh’s reckless challenge on the edge of the box. It looks 50/50 to being outside but having just given Carlisle a penalty, you know human nature will see the odds fall in favour of Charlton. Burton duly scores to send them in 1-1. Second half is all Carlisle and Kavanagh enacts his own revenge with two superb long-range strikes.
*Player Ratings – Pidgeley 7.00, Keogh 8.75 (Star Man), Livesey 7.13, Harte 7.75, Horwood 7.25, Hurst 5.88, Taiwo 7.50, Kavanagh 7.06, Robson 7.00, Dobie 7.38, Pericard 7.00.
Nov 1st (Sun)
Yesterday’s victory sinks in. We have finally put one over ginger whinger Nicky Bailey and Charlton to lay a bit of ‘previous’ to rest (the Raven sending off when we were hard on the heels of Swansea in 07/8 and of course, Tolmie-Gate). Woo Hoo! Chris Evans, Anne Robinson, David Caruso, Mick Hucknell, Elizabeth I, the one off Sex and the City that nobody can remember, Paul Scholes, Charlie Dimmock, Julia Roberts we have beaten them all. Ron Weasley, can you hear me? Ron Weasley, can you hear me? Ron Weasley, your boys took one hell of a beating.
Nov 2nd (Mon)
Adam Clayton joins Carlisle United on loan from Man City until January 2. The England Under-20 midfielder, who recently played in the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt, signed a two-year deal in May but has yet to figure in Mark Hughes' senior plans this season.
Greg Abbott commented: "We're really looking forward to working with him. He was on the brink of the first team last season but, with the arrival of the likes of Robinho and Gareth Barry, it has become very competitive. City have been fantastic with us and they see this as an opportunity for their player to come in and help us, by giving us some depth in a key position. He is very similar to Paul Thirlwell in the way that he plays, and he definitely isn't shy when it comes to putting a tackle in. He also has a good range of passing, and we think he will fit in nicely with the way that we want to do things."
Nov 3rd (Tue)
Despite progressing and also fielding new signings such as Offiong, the club are fined £3,000 for not fielding a strong enough team against Morecambe on September 1st in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Rule 7.3 states that a minimum of six players who have played in the majority of league and cup games to date (out of 11 presumably) are meant to play any given JPT tie from the beginning. United argued that injuries to first team regulars such as Taiwo and Livesey meant that a change in the starting line up was a necessity. Recent transfer activity involving Kevan Hurst and Richard Offiong also made them natural choices as part of the team. 50% of the fine is payable immediately, with 50% suspended pending future involvement in the competition.
In slightly better news, Tom Taiwo and Adam Clayton are cleared by Chelsea and Man City respectively to play for United in the coming FA Cup tie, if selected.
Nov 4th (Wed)
The night’s BIG cup tie involving the famous team based in Lancashire (in old money) is postponed and re-arranged for next Monday evening. The winners of the Accrington Stanley v Carlisle Utd FA Youth Cup tie will take on York City away in the second round.
* Taken as an average from the CUFC online messageboard.
